Travel to South Island via ferry across Cook Strait. 3 days visiting industrial forest sites, exploring native forests and experiencing the spectacular beauty of ocean, beaches, mountains and lakes. Attend the annual meeting of the NZ Farm Forestry Association.
Focus on geology, wildlife ecology, forest restoration and urban forestry around Nelson and Christchurch with local forestry experts.

The tour is intended to combine a concentrated look at the forests of New Zealand with a memorable visual and cultural experience. The itinerary includes regional forest visits and discussions with local foresters and scientists on topics that include forest ecology, conservation policy and forest management.
Transport: Travel within New Zealand will be by van, small bus or by air. The itinerary is designed to minimize long road trips while providing an insider’s overview of New Zealand.
Accommodations: Overnight stays will be in clean, comfortable hotels or inns. We have planned multi-night stays near Nelson, Rotoiti, and Canterbury.
Side trips & attractions: There are many interesting activities and day trips in each of the areas we will visit. The tour is planned to be spouse-friendly and to allow free time to enjoy the sites and culture of New Zealand. We will strive to provide information about these to participants who may not wish to join the forestry field tours. The costs of extra activities are not included in the tour price.
Cost: Approximately $2200 (US) net of international airfare, including double-occupancy lodging, entry fees, in-country transportation and many meals.
Registration: The tour is limited to a maximum of 16 people. The trip will go forward as planned, if a minimum of 10 participants is registered by February 5, 2010.
